Meet Young Wellness Entrepreneur – Marian Ameyaw-Amissah

I have always had an interest in health and well being. My core ambitions are to help people to live a healthier and a better life. I also believe in having a job that brings fun, whiles earning from it” says the budding entrepreneur.

After getting married a few months before her graduation, Marian began to develop a new perspective about life. Balancing career and family became a pressing concern. She thought about being a good wife and later a caring mother to her children. This pressing need stirred her drive to start something new.

As she explains, “I am a proud professional woman, a wife and in a few years to come will be a mother but if I were to have enough time for the family in the future then I needed to start planning ahead and working towards it. That meant doing extra, hence the ambition to make extra income besides what I do regularly in the healthcare industry”.

Notwithstanding, there were other reasons which encouraged her to start her business venture. Laughing out, Marian intimates that, “The other side of the story was that for one reason or the other, I started putting on weight. Some said it was the joy of being married and others simply made fun of me. But I knew that whatever the reasons were, I was too young to settle and become overweight just because I had happily married. I wanted to continue to stay fit and become attractive to my husband and also feel good about myself”.

The journey to become an entrepreneur began when she got introduced by her cousin to a business opportunity that could fulfill her need of losing weight and earning extra income around her current schedule. It was a chance to own a business in the wellness industry as part of an international company, Herbalife International. Marian works as a distributor (part-time) of health  and nutrition products. She also introduces this business opportunity to other women who may be interested in starting out a similar venture.

"This personal journey as I refer to it, has been very exciting and challenging. I run the business part-time from home with the support of my husband and just like any new venture, it’s had its highs and lows but the most important thing is I have enjoyed it and still do. I have had the opportunity to have and share new experiences with people all over the world".
