10 Life Events that Make You Appreciate Mum

You would be always be a part of us! We are part of you indefinately. We know we cannot escape you. Our love would never end. Mum, we say thank you! After these words to our mothers, let's join Denise Wild as she writes on 10 Life Events that make us appreciate our mothers.

She’s the queen of multitasking and knows the answer to almost every question. And she’s often taken for granted. But after you fly away from the nest, and life experiences start weighing you down, you soon realize how much you your mom has done for you.

1. Forgetting Gum in Your Pocket

She was Ms. Fix-It around the house. And she dealt with every problem, she fixed anything that went wrong and she made everything better. With every act of negligence, every careless mistake, every mushed up gum stick spread through a load of clean clothes, Mom came to the rescue.

2. Learning to Cook

You can't throwing frozen dinner in the microwave for every occasion. Cooking requires navigating the grocery store, doing proper food prep, understanding cooking times, and combining flavours. Add to that making a meal that satisfies more than one hungry (and often particular) mouth, and you’ve got a skill that takes years to hone.

3. Hosting a Party

She steered conversations away from conflicts and arguments. Mom knew who to seat where and who would arrive first. She selected a menu to cater to everyone's needs, and she served all the dishes in the main course at the same time. When Grandma asked for a cup of tea before she sat down to eat, she smiled and cooled off as the kettle boiled in the kitchen.

4. Raising Kids

The next time you’re asked to take care of your friend’s spoiled children, don’t think about the forthcoming headache and inconvenience. Think about how often you weren’t on your best behaviour growing up. And think about how your mother stuck through your tantrums and arguments and never passed you off at the end of the day.

5. Cleaning the Bathroom

Ah, the bathroom. Easily at the top of the list of everyone’s least favourite cleaning projects. And definitely not the most glamorous job in the house. But she did it. She kneeled, she scrubbed, she reached, and she repeated.

6. Taking a Second Job

Whether your mother had a job or two or not, she was a master at juggling tasks and time. Taking on a second job will make you appreciate the struggle of balancing a life that’s full to the brim.

7. Getting Sick

Whenever you find yourself in pain, unable to move from your bed, nursing a nasty cold or in the grips of a fever, don't you always long for Mom? You’ll think back to when she was always at your side to comfort you, make soup for you or rub your back while you dozed in and out of sleep.

8. Running late for an appointment

You had a lot going on and now you’re running late. Think that’s something your mom never ran into? Doubt it. She raised a family, kept the house, and whether she worked full time, part time, she was on call all the time. She always put her family first and her own needs often went unsatisfied.

9. Removing Unsightly Stains

Was it white wine or club soda that tackles a red wine stain? And is it a cold or a flu that you’re supposed to sweat out? Not only does Mom know best, Mom knows all. She made it her duty to learn it and live it while she took care of you and took care of the home. Don’t forget it.

10. Having a Baby

Having your first baby puts life into perspective. Your mom started off as a woman just like all other. When she became pregnant, she had to learn how to take care of herself and her little bundle inside. And she did her best, just as you will.
